Love or Loath? Chinoiserie Pagoda Mirrors

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Chinoiserie pagoda shaped mirrors are one of those iconic decorating pieces you can spot everywhere from 17th century English manor houses to modern apartments on Upper East Side. Their unique form is based on the architecture of Buddhist temples but these days they come in all types of styles. While pagoda mirrors can certainly feel a bit ornate or overwrought,  I think the in right setting they can be a fantastic statement piece! I love seeing these traditional mirrors contrasted in modern spaces {like the streamlined, chic office above! via

So, what is your vote . . . can you embrace these embellished beauties?

{ok, so maybe not a true pagoda here but the shape is right and I adore the whole space too much not to include it!}

I love the contrast of the raspberry pagoda mirror in this sweet lavender and white setting! What a chic little girls room.

Here is a market round up of my favorite pagoda mirrors:

I adore the classic shape and cobalt color of #2 but I also included a few with more modern lines - for those of you who love the shape but prefer a bit less decoration!
